1. Enjoyable Moment🤗

My birthday feast! @TOASTERia

26th Birthday cake

I decided to go to this Mediterranean restaurant to celebrate my 26th birthday. I’d been longing for tasting authentic Shakshuka for a long time though Mom had made this dish to eat with my homemade sourdough bread for many times (I also did it once :D) since I saw many Taiwanese make this dishes and post on Instagram. I also missed hummus so much and wanted to introduce this dish to Mom. We had Shakshuka Jaffa which is classic Shakshuka with spinach puree and ricotta cheese! I have to say the taste was so much better than what we made! How did they balance the flavor with different amounts of different spicies and tomato sauce and make this dish taste so delicious without any flavor so strong? Mom was also happy to have this chance to try a dish she’d never had before. She liked the hummus-stuffed pita bread especially. Now I think she can get why I missed this dishes a lot :D.

2. Photo of the week

On Wednesday, I baked the sourdough, which turned out the most successful one I have ever made so far. With full of satisfaction, after it was taken out from the oven, I hardly waited to cut it into halves (I am sure you know the feelings of just before opening gifts.) and so did my mom. A fresh bread need to be cooled down before slicing it so as to prevent soggy, gummy texture and allow to cut it more easily; it also will increase more intricate flavors of sourdough bread during cooling, bla bla bla……. I just want to see the inside structure to know how much progress I achieved this time!! After a 7-hour suffering waiting, oh finally at night I can open my “gift” and, I DID IT! This bread had a small bunny ear and got more air pockets than anytime before. More open crumbs and pleasant sour smells! YES!!!!!

Better oven spring and a small bunny ear

The next day, I made an open avocado shrimp sourdough sandwich and a yummy mushroom omelette for lunch. Both of them were all delicious and I felt I wouldn’t have ever had enough for this! I even missed their tastes even the day after. I wrote this message in my diary:

I am thankful to myself for coming up new dishes to taste everyday. Therefore, I can enjoy the happiness of different delights dancing with emotions on my tongue, in my throat. It must be so wonderful to think what form the food is dancing!

3. Coolest things I had experienced this week

This Saturday is Argentine’s Independence day, which is on 9th July. There were a series of events which aimed for introducing Latin American cultures. I registered for many lectures, such as “Tango in Agentine Literacture”, “What you don’t know about Tango”, and a DIY workshop which taught people to make Guatemalan Worry Dolls. I am proud of myself that I took the initiate to join a Tango introduction which was not in my plan; Mom and I even played many Tango songs on Spotify and practiced what we learned at the class after back home.

Worry dolls we made. In the legend, Guatemalan children made six dolls and told their worries to their dolls every night before sleeping except for Sundays and the dolls would help fix their worries. But why not on Sundays? It is because the Worry dolls also keep the Sabbath rule and rest!
